President Soekarno was the only president of Indonesia who were welcomed at the airport by President of the United States, during a visit to the country super power. This proves the high esteem of the nation of Indonesia.
Soekarno, besides being a proclaimer of independence and first President of Indonesia, also known as one of the founders and leaders of Non Aligned Movement (NAM). Together with Josep Broz Tito (Yugoslavia), Jawaharal Nehru (India) and Gamal Abdul Naseer (Egypt), he managed to embrace many countries to perform movements that are not partial to one of the blocks in the cold war era. So powerful was the influence of the NAM on the current international situation, the countries involved in the cold war was respectful to the NAM and its founders. Evidence that the NAM respected appears in one part of the second world war museum in Caen, France. At the museum which is located in the city within 12 miles of the coast of Normandy, where Allied forces landed to invade Germany at the time the second world war, can be found the story of Sukarno and the NAM leaders. Sukarno's own story is illustrated by the presence of three international magazine cover story containing Soekarno, the book "Sukarno" by Cindy Adams, a set of collections of stamps and a pictorial paper money Sukarno, and a post card the first day of the Asian-African Conference of the Philippines issued by the post office .
